Piercing

The Piercing Process

Updated: 8 October 2026

Before anything else, you need to find a piercer who will do the work professionally and hygienically. At Black Ink Art, the process runs like this:

  1. Setup preparation — The piercing setup table is sterilised, and sterilised forceps, scissors and tools are laid out.
  2. Choosing the jewellery and disinfecting — A piercing suited to the area is chosen; the area is disinfected first with povidone-iodine (Betadine) and then with alcohol.
  3. Gloves — Every step is carried out in single-use sterile gloves.
  4. Securing the tissue — Once the area has been cleaned with Betadine, the tissue is held with forceps; blood flow is stopped and the area is numbed.
  5. The piercing — The piercing is made at the points marked beforehand, using a single-use sterile cannula needle. With the needle withdrawn, the cannula is passed through the skin, the jewellery is threaded through it, and the ball is fitted.
  6. Waste handling — Afterwards the needle goes into medical waste, and all metal tools are sterilised so that they can be used again.

For dermal piercings, the opening is made with a single-use dermal punch, and the procedure ends with the anchor implant being seated in the opening. The tightness of the stone on top is checked.
