Piercing
Piercing Healing Times
Updated: 1 February 2026
Healing time depends on the placement, on how quickly you heal as an individual, and on how carefully you follow the aftercare. The times below are averages:
| Placement | Average healing time |
|---|---|
| Earlobe | 2 – 4 months |
| Ear cartilage | 4 months – 1 year |
| Lip | 2 – 4 months |
| Tongue | 1 – 2 months |
| Nose | 2 – 4 months |
| Eyebrow | 2 – 4 months |
| Cheek | 4 – 8 months |
| Navel | 4 months – 1 year |
| Chest / Nipple | 3 – 8 months |
| Genital | 2 – 6 weeks |
| Dermal | 3 months – 1 year |
Cartilage and mucosal tissue — the mouth and the inside of the nose — generally heal more slowly and are more sensitive. Sticking closely to the aftercare protocol matters especially in these areas. For the detailed steps, see piercing aftercare.
